Alfalfas

Alfalfas

Alfalfa, recognized worldwide as the "Queen of Forages", is the backbone of many forage systems in the Midwest. Alfalfa is a nutrient dense forage that has good summer production. With its deeper root system, alfalfa will continue to grow and yield better than most other forages under less than ideal moisture situations.

Our alfalfas are hand selected by a group of dairy farmers, agronomists, and dairy nutritionists from hundreds of varieties in side-by-side trials, and evaluated in on-farm performance trials. They are selected to meet the needs of today's top alfalfa growers for forage quality, yield, and stand life.

  • E2 631 Baralfa X42 Hybrid Alfalfa/Grass Mixture

We call this mixture E2. It is energy squared, or in other words, the power of two: Barenbrug proprietary grass seed combined with hybrid alfalfa into one effective and labor saving mixture. This synergized mixture boosts energy levels in rations compared to alfalfa alone. Contains 60% Baralfa X42, the next generation of hybrid alfalfa using the msSunstra Hybrid Alfalfa Technology! It features the branch rooted trait to allow it to persist and be productive in poorly drained soils. Baralfa X42 is an aggressive, high forage yielding, high quality alfalfa that expresses fast re-growth with fine stems. This mixture also contains approximately 30% of Barenbrug's highest quality, late-maturing tall fescue. Tall fescue is very high in digestible fiber (energy). Tall fescue also has a very deep root system which provides good drought tolerance and high yields. Contains 10% Baraula orchardgrass. Baraula is a very late maturing orchardgrass that does well on lighter soils and is less clumpy than traditional orchardgrasses. Both the alfalfa and the grass are coated with the famous Yellow Jacket seed coating that minimizes separation and aids in establishment. Yellow Jacket coating contains ZEBA, a patented compound that absorbs a minimum of six hundred (600) times it s weight in water and increases healthy plant establishment. One bag contains 25 lbs. Seeding rate 25 lbs (1 bag) per acre.

Baralfa X42 hybrid alfalfa with the msSunstra technology is designed to provide more tons of forage with consistent forage quality. The fine stems also contribute to faster dry down, dense stands and less wasted forage. Fall dormancy 4 with a very winter hardy score of 1.8. Coated with Yellow Jacket seed coating which contains ZEBA, a compound which draws moisture to the seed to help with quick germination. Comes in 50 lb bags. Limited Supply

  • Pillar Alfalfa Standfast Alfalfa w/ Nitro coating

Pillar is a high yielding alfalfa featuring the unique Standfast Fast Growth trait that offers up to 30% faster growth than the other competitive alfalfa varieties, resulting in extra cuttings and more harvestable yield each season. Developed from crossing fast growing, tall European alfalfas onto North American plants and screened for high yield potential, persistence, and high forage quality. Pillar comes from a breeding program that utilizes a systems approach to plant breeding. This systems approach to plant breeding fits well with both conventional and organic alfalfa growers that utilize rotations and livestock inputs. Both the livestock producer and the commercial hay grower benefit from the fast growth and high forage quality. Pillar can produce an extra 4 to 6 inches of growth in the first 21 days after each harvest and reach maturity 3 to 5 days ahead of other alfalfas. This fast recovery after cuttings maximizes the total number of productive harvests each season. Ideal for the 4 to 5 cut harvest system. Pillar seed production is in place to adhere to CROPP seed policy. Fall dormancy 4.0, winter hardiness index 1.5, WDI 35/35. Seeding rate 15-20 lbs per acre. Preinoculated with Nitro. 50 lb bag.
Standfast Fast Growth - Standfast Fast Growth trait (non-GMO) provides faster regrowth (extra 4-6 in 21 days) after each cutting resulting in higher overall yields.
