Standfast Alfalfas

Standfast Alfalfas

The quest for genetic diversification and superior yield has led breeders to a unique family of tall, fast-growing alfalfas with improved standability. These new alfalfas with StandFast traits offer high yield, persistence, and complete pest package, improved standability, and a faster recovery after harvest. StandFast alfalfas are the product of conventional breeding and are not GMO's. Growers who plant an alfalfa with StandFast traits will have additional opportunity for maximum net yield from every acre each season.

  • Pillar Alfalfa w/Nitro

Pillar is a high yielding alfalfa featuring the unique Standfast Fast Growth trait that offers up to 30% faster growth than the other competitive alfalfa varieties, resulting in extra cuttings and more harvestable yield each season. Developed from crossing fast growing, tall European alfalfas onto North American plants and screened for high yield potential, persistence, and high forage quality. Pillar comes from a breeding program that utilizes a systems approach to plant breeding. This systems approach to plant breeding fits well with both conventional and organic alfalfa growers that utilize rotations and livestock inputs. Both the livestock producer and the commercial hay grower benefit from the fast growth and high forage quality. Pillar can produce an extra 4 to 6 inches of growth in the first 21 days after each harvest and reach maturity 3 to 5 days ahead of other alfalfas. This fast recovery after cuttings maximizes the total number of productive harvests each season. Ideal for the 4 to 5 cut harvest system. Pillar seed production is in place to adhere to CROPP seed policy. Fall dormancy 4.0, winter hardiness index 1.5, WDI 35/35. Seeding rate 15-20 lbs per acre. Preinoculated with Nitro. 50 lb bag.
Standfast Fast Growth - Standfast Fast Growth trait (non-GMO) provides faster regrowth (extra 4-6” in 21 days) after each cutting resulting in higher overall yields.
