Triticale Advantages |
Italian Ryegrass Advantages |
| Easier to cut
with sickle mower. |
Increases
quality, digestibility, energy, etc. |
|
More winter-hardy |
Much better regrowth later in the spring |
| Faster grown
cover can be sown lower in the fall. |
More cuttings
and increased tonnage |
| Much easier to
blow into upright silo, due to more stems |
|
This blend has some very good
advantages. Caution: Do not drill deeper than ½.
In yield trial results, a blend of the two
give higher overall tonnage than one by itself. Seed at 80
to 100 lbs per acre.
Trical® 2700
-Order Now-
Spring Planted Triticale—from Resource Seed
is a widely adapted, highly versatile Triticale for grazing,
silage and boot-stage hay. It is excellent planted alone, or
blended with other cereals for forage peas.
High protein, digestibility and yield –
proven to have outstanding digestibility (IVTD) and crude
protein. Significantly higher yields than other boot-stage
cereal forages.
Excellent source of digestible fiber that
is vital for the health and productivity and dairy and beef
cattle-digestible fiber (dNDF) provides energy along with the
benefits of fiber for rumen health. Trical® 2700
receives high ratings for dNDF.
Superior tolerance to disease, lagoon water
and tough growing conditions – compared to other cereal forages.
TRICAL 336
-Order Now-
Winter Triticale – from Resource Seed
A high quality dairy silage when harvested
before heading or also for grazing.High protein and high
digestibility – shown to have overall outstanding true
digestibility (IVTD).Excellent source of digestible fiber that
is vital for the health and productivity of dairy cows. Neutral
Detergent Fiber (NDF), a commonly used measure of forage fiber,
consists of some compounds that are readily digested by rumen
bacteria in the dairy animal, an others that are not. The
digestible fiber (dNDF) provides energy along with the benefits
of fiber for rumen health. TRICALâ
336 receives high ratings for dNDF. TRICALâ
336 is ideal as a double croup. Harvest in boot stage of
maturity (before heading). Good winter hardiness. Also high
silage yields, yielding 35% more boot stage forage than wheat in
recent University tests. TRICALâ
336 has a dense, leafy growth.
Triticale for Silage and Hay:
Triticale is a highly versatile silage and hay that can meet a
wide range of livestock needs. For outstanding quality, the
optimum harvest stage is at flag leaf or boot, prior to head
emergence. Total digestibility and fiber digestibility are
exceptionally high at this stage. Typical digestibility as
measured by 30 hr. InVitro True Digestibility is 84% for
superior Triticale varieties prior to heading, compared to
representative averages of 80% for corn silage and 78% for
alfalfa hay. (Note: ADF, NDF< and estimates of TDN and NEL
based on them, can be very misleading for cereal forages.)
Protein content at the boot state will vary depending on
fertility, moisture and other growing conditions, but generally
will range between 10 and 19%. For feeding animals that do not
need maximum protein and digestibility, delaying harvest can
increase yield significantly, but protein can drop below 10%.
Triticale Pasture: Triticale is
become the cool-season annual pasture of choice in many areas
because of its superior combination of productivity, quality,
and durability.
TRITLAGE PRO –
from Byron Seed
-Order Now-
Tritlage Pro is a cool weather crop, a combination of Tricalâ
2700 triticale and forage peas, only the best available on the
market. Harvest should be when peas flower or Triticale is in
flag leaf stage.
TRITLAGE PRO is a selection of peas and
Triticale that Byron Seeds has developed, through both our
efforts and university research, to excel in quality and tonnage
– resulting on very high digestibility with increased milk
production and beef gains over oat/peas combinations.
Tritlage Pro should be planted as soon as
possible in the spring. It can be drilled, or broadcast,
provided the soil is cultipacked. Tritlage Pro can d be
no-tilled into existing hay crops, however use of a burn down is
recommended to ensure good emergence.
TRITLAGE PRO makes a tremendous
companion crop when planted with alfalfa. Tritlage Pro
provides early growth ensuring good ground over and suppressing
weed competition in new seeding alfalfa. Tritlage Pro can be
harvested 50-65 days after planting. Cut when flowers appear on
peas. In normal weather, it will yield from 4-8 tons per acre
with 50% dry matter, depending on fertility.
TRITLAGE PRO can also be used in the
fall for quick forage. Planted mid-August to early
September, it can be harvested or grazed October through
December with a very high tonnage potential. Tritlage Pro can
also be mixed with turnips. A fall regrowth of 3-4 inches prior
to dormancy is critical for winter survival of the Triticale in
the southern and central Midwest. Peas will not survive the
winter.
EVERLEAF 126
Forage Oats
-Order Now-
A true forage oats with delayed heading (about 2 weeks
later in Midwest). They are very bushy and leafier than Jerry
and have a softer stem. Forage quality is extremely high. 24
hr NDFd test were 75%. Protein was also slightly higher. Our
samples of Everleaf Oats were the highest forage quality of all
the small grains we have ever tested. The leaves may get to
1.25” wide.
FORAGER PEAS
-Order Now-
New variety of forage pea. This pea was selected out
of the “Dunn” Family of peas. Bred in Australia. Very High
yielding, excellent forage quality pea. University trials show
much higher quality than other forage peas.
Advantages: Drought resistance, high
quality forage.
SPELT
-Order Now-
Spelt is a late maturing small grain closely related
to wheat. Most varieties are taller and more aggressive in
growth than wheat. Spelt is managed similar to wheat but
requires 10 to 20% less nitrogen than wheat. Do not use spelt
as a nurse crop. Seed at 110 to 150 lbs peer Acre with 150
lb being a goal for forage use. Most drills need to be wide
open because of its bulkiness.
Oberkulmer Spelt
-Order Now-
A true spelt containing not wheat germplasm. This
variety is tall and robust which makes it a great variety for
forage harvested at the boot stage. Also excellent for both
grain and straw.
Champ Spelt
-Order Now-
This is a popular spelt for grain or forage.
