This is a very palatable grass and is
well adapted to heavy soils. Timothy has huge production in
spring, but then is rather poor in summer and fall. However the
Dutch bred varieties have a little more even growth cycle, have
a little more of a spreading growth habit, and can tolerate
frequent cutting and grazing better than traditional American
varieties. They also make a leafier hay.
Barliza
from Barenbrug
-Order Now-
This popular European Timothy is early growing, late
maturing and persistent. Barliza has a little more even growth
cycle, have a little more of a spreading growth habit, and can
tolerate frequent cutting and grazing better than traditional
varieties. Sow in fall or very early spring. Plant shallow, no
deeper than ¼” in a firm seedbed. It does well in pasture
blends of Perennial Ryegrass and White Clover.
Its palatability and digestibility are very similar to
Ryegrass. Barliza is also noted for disease resistance and
Winter-hardiness. It is about 10 days later than Climax.
Barliza makes very leafy, high quality hay.
Barfleo
from Barenbrug
-Order Now-
Barfleo is an intermediate maturing Timothy and very high
yielding variety with exception spring development. Good
ability to compete with other species in a pasture and high
resistance to diseases. Barfleo is very good with Alfalfas.
It shows excellent quality for better growth throughout the
summer. It is very suitable for hay production.
Kootenai
-Order Now-
This top of the line Timothy is doing
extremely well in grower trials. Compared to Climax, it is much
higher yielding. Kootenai matures early, making it good for
mixtures with Alfalfa. (Approximately 4 days earlier
than Climax). It tillers more and is extremely high yielding.
It has high palatability, high hay quality, and matures at 46 to
50 inches. Kootenai is superior in mixtures, has an excellent
winter-hardiness, and is very persistent. It also has excellent
seedling vigor and high resistance to leaf diseases. Kootenai
does not lodge as much as other Timothy varieties. For
double crop situations, seeded in the fall, Kootenai would be
ready earlier for 1st cutting hay.
Note: we are getting a lot of comments
on these Timothys having much better regrowth, getting 3
cuttings, and even occasionally a 4th cutting per
year.
