Meadow Fescue

Meadow fescue is growing in popularity with dairy and livestock farmers due to its high forage quality.  Meadow fescue grows under cool, moist conditions, tolerating even wet and sometimes flooded areas. Once established, it also performs well under drier conditions for making hay or silage. In good soils, meadow fescue surpasses perennial ryegrass in summer production. Meadow fescue is also a good companion to grow with alfalfa.  Although meadow fescues do contain endophytes, they are at very low levels, and show no signs of having detrimental effects on livestock.
